Terms of Use

Terms of use for the Fancymoji kaomoji library, explained in plain English

Fancymoji is a free kaomoji library with no account, no paywall and nothing to sign. These terms explain what you may do with the faces you copy here — which is very nearly anything — what we ask in return, and what we cannot promise. They took effect on 11 August 2026.

The short version

Take any face from this site and use it wherever you like, including at work and in things you sell, without asking us and without crediting us. We do not own the characters and we do not pretend to. What we ask is that you do not scrape the library wholesale to rebuild it somewhere else, and that you understand this site is provided as it is, by a small editorial team, with no guarantees attached.

Everything below is that same position spelled out, because a summary is not a term and vague terms help nobody.

What you may do with the faces

Every kaomoji on Fancymoji may be copied and used freely, for anything, by anyone. There is no licence to accept, no attribution requirement and no distinction between personal and commercial use. Paste them into messages, streams, videos, usernames, print, packaging or a product you charge money for — none of that needs our permission, because none of it was ever ours to grant.

What you may do with kaomoji from Fancymoji — personal use, commercial use, and no credit needed
The faces carry no licence and no attribution requirement — they are public characters.

The written material around the faces is a different matter. Our descriptions, the meaning and “when to use” notes, the way faces are grouped, the images and the page layouts are written and made by the Fancymoji editorial team, and those we do own. The practical line is easy to hold:

What it is Yours to use freely Ask first
The kaomoji characters themselves Yes — any use, any purpose —
A face plus our written meaning, quoted in passing Yes — short quotes with a link —
Our full descriptions or curated groupings, republished — Yes
Our images and page layouts — Yes
A bulk copy of the library — Yes

What we ask you not to do

Three things, and they exist to keep the site up rather than to protect a business model. Do not run automated scrapers that pull the library at a rate a person could not — it costs us server capacity that pays for nothing. Do not republish our written descriptions and groupings as your own collection. Do not attempt to break, overload or gain access to parts of the site that are not public.

Ordinary browsing is never a problem, and neither is copying a hundred faces by hand because you are building something you care about. The line is automation and wholesale republication, not enthusiasm.

The kaomoji themselves are not ours to licence

A kaomoji is a sequence of public Unicode code points — the same characters available on any device that supports them. The Unicode Standard is published by the Unicode Consortium and the code points in it belong to no one. A face made of brackets, punctuation and a Japanese character cannot be owned, by us or by anybody else, and we make no claim over any of them.

Kaomoji are public Unicode characters that belong to everyone, not to the Fancymoji library
Fancymoji curates and explains the faces; it does not own the characters they are made from.

This matters for one practical reason. If you find the same face on another site, nobody has copied anybody — you have found the same public characters twice. What is worth comparing between kaomoji sites is the curation, the accuracy of the meanings and whether the text stays copyable, not who “has” a face.

If you believe material you own appears on this site without permission, the contact page sets out exactly what to include in a copyright claim, and we answer either way.

What you send us by email

Fancymoji has no comment box, no upload form and no submission form of any kind, so email is the only route by which anything of yours reaches us. That covers corrections, bug reports, removal requests, copyright claims and suggestions for faces the library is missing.

When you send us a suggestion or a correction, you are giving us permission to act on it — to add a face, fix a description or change a page — without payment and without a credit line, because that is what sending a suggestion to a free library reasonably means. You keep whatever rights you had in anything you wrote; we are not claiming ownership of your email. If you would rather your name or wording never appear on the site, say so in the message and we will honour it.

How long we keep correspondence, and what happens to your contact details, is covered in the privacy policy rather than repeated here.

Who we are not affiliated with

Fancymoji is an independent site run by the Fancymoji editorial team. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Unicode Consortium, to Sanrio or any Japanese brand, or to any platform where you might paste a face — TikTok, Discord, Instagram and the rest are named on this site only to describe where the characters do and do not render. Every product name and trade mark mentioned anywhere on Fancymoji belongs to its respective owner, and appears for identification only.

Kaomoji are public Unicode characters rather than a custom font or a proprietary product, so nothing you copy here carries anyone’s branding with it.

What we do not promise

The site is provided as it is. We check the faces we publish and we correct what is reported to us, but we do not warrant that every description is right, that the library is complete, or that the site will be available without interruption. A curated library is a set of editorial judgements, and editorial judgements can be wrong.

One limitation is worth stating plainly because it is the one that actually affects people. Whether a kaomoji displays correctly depends on the device, operating system, app and fonts of whoever sees it — not on us. A face that renders perfectly for you may appear as empty rectangles for someone reading on an older phone. We cannot control that, we do not promise it will not happen, and the contact page explains how to tell a rendering problem from a real fault.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of this site or of a face you copied from it. If you are relying on a particular character rendering correctly somewhere that matters, test it there first.

If something goes wrong between us

Fancymoji is a small independent site, not a company with a legal department, and the honest position is that almost everything is resolved by email. If you think we have got something wrong — a description, a removal we refused, a claim we mishandled — write to contact@fancymoji.com and say so plainly. We read every message and we answer, including when the answer is no.

We would rather fix a problem than defend a position, and in practice a message describing what happened and what you would like done about it is the fastest route to both.

Changes to these terms

These terms describe how Fancymoji actually operates today rather than how a template says a website might operate, so they will be rewritten whenever the site changes in a way that affects you — in particular if submissions, accounts or advertising are ever introduced. The date below is the real date of the last substantive change and is not refreshed for cosmetic edits.

The library itself is browsable from Fancymoji, and questions about these terms go to contact@fancymoji.com.
